Over the past six months, the global lottery monitoring system received 38% less information on suspicious activity of participants in the gambling industry, compared to the same period in 2019.
GLMS President Ludovico Calvi says:
“The postponement of sporting events has created an opportunity for fraud to be manipulated. There has been an increase in the number of matches that were not actually played but advertised on the Internet with an offer to place a bet. Basketball, hockey and tennis were ranked in descending order after football. Esports also made it to the list: there were only two warnings. "
Geographically, the greatest activity of cybercriminals is observed in Europe, which accounted for 178 out of 269 warnings.
