Question by R. W.: Do poker dealers for the WPT or WSOP events get paid more than just regular dealers in the casino?
Also I’m just curious about that question but also, when they (poker players) make it to a televised final table do the dealers get tipped as well or since they were on TV does the casino offer a generous tip for them?

Yes, they have a higher level of training. In some cases I think they actually get some tips from the players. Visit pokergob.com/theunluckbox he is a poker dealer at Foxwoods and has also worked in WSOP Vegas

It’s tough to say. This is a very open ended question subject to opinion and conjecture.

Harrah’s (the owners of the WSOP franchise) has been positioning themselves to become a factor in the online poker space. They hired a former executive from Party Poker to run their online operations. There are rumors about Zynga becoming a huge presence as well. Party Poker paid 9 figure fines to wipe their hands clean of their wrongdoings in the past presumably to lead the way for their comeback in the US market. FTP and Stars have been very active in the Poker Player Alliance (theppa.org) and helped markup the bill that overturns the UIGEA and will hopefully legalize (and regulate and provide tax revenue from) online gambling.

Predictions? There will be another poker boom, followed by a consolidation just like there was in 2003-2006. I think FTP, Stars, Party and Zynga will continue be the big players (although Zynga may have a very rough transition in becoming a real money site). I don’t know much about Harrah’s goals, but I think they will need to buy an existing poker network to be a player.

It’s on ESPN2. One of the guys announcing is Antonio Esfandiari – one of the best players around. (Very entertaining, too.)

I know they’ve at least aired Day 3, 4, 5, & 6. Maybe more that I missed.

Why is the WSOP main event final table played in November? More than 65 days after the day it gets down to 9? Is it going to be live on TV or something?

ESPN wanted them to do it, so they can show all the other event from that year. So that when the time comes for the November 9 to play ESPN would have caught up with them.

Basically, so espn can show the Main Event final table just days after it happens.

If I play online poker now until im 21 (4 years), with some real life tournaments too, will I be good enough to have a fair chance of a cash finish in WSOP?

You left out one little, tiny detail. I think it might be an important one.

Are you a WINNING poker player?!?!? I’m not talking about fake money games – they mean absolutely, positively NOTHING. I mean – have you been playing CASH tournaments and winning money from them? Are you UP more money than you’re down?

Even if you are winning, I would still have to predict, “no” – you do not have a “fair chance” of a cash finish. Especially if you’re talking about the Main Event. Thousands of people enter this tournament, and most of them are highly skilled players. Last year, 6,494 people entered. 648 of them were paid. So you have to do better than 90% of the field!

I imagine if you entered every possible event that there was, your chances would start going up. Somehow I believe you’re only talking about the main event.

There’s several ways you could do it, but I’d need more information to give you some ideas.

Like how much time do you have, how many tournaments are you going to run, and how many people are going to be showing up at your tournaments.

One way, you could run weekly tournaments for say 6 months. The entry fee, something like . goes to a prize pool for the tournament, and goes to a pool for the WSOP prize package.

So if you ran a tournament every week for 6 months, it would be around 24 tournaments. You would need 100 people for each tournament to get ,000, which would be for a ,000 entry fee, and ,000 for expenses.

When you win cash like that, it is immediately taxed under the capital gains provision of the tax law. I think they immediately withhold about 35%. Capital gains tax is near 35% – 40% but I am not sure.
