Q&A: How does Vegas casino poker work?
Question by Tim M: How does Vegas casino poker work?
Going to Vegas for the first time. Looking forward to playing some hold ‘em. However, I have NO IDEA how it works not the rules of the hand but the buy-ins and pay outs. For EX one of the casino sites say for no limit hold ‘em $ 80 buy in $ 1000 in chips. OK so what does that mean? Obviously they are not going to give me $ 1000 for $ 80.
Just a little confused on how it works. Can you cash out at anytime for games like that? I know sounds dumb but never been to Vegas to play real poker.

$ 80 buy in $ 1000 chips – that’s a tournament. And no – you can’t cash out anytime….gotta win the tournament or at least last long enough to make the money!
Any other cash game – if you buy in for $ 100 they give you $ 100 in chips. And you can leave whenever you want.
They will refer to them as $ 1/$ 2 or $ 2/$ 5 (or much higher!) which is referring to the small blind/big blind structure.
And the cash games can be limit or no-limit.
When you get to the poker room there will be someone you check in with, they will tell you what games are being played and which have open seats.

Will a vegas casino provide a dealer for a 1 table poker tournament?
Question by Charles C: Will a vegas casino provide a dealer for a 1 table poker tournament?
I’m going to be in Vegas with some friends, maybe 5-8 people. Will a casino provide a dealer if we want to play a small hold ‘em tournament? What about a cash game? Main point is we don’t want random players in the mix.

Yes most places should rent you a table, equipment and a dealer for an hourly rate.

Where can I get used Casino Poker Chips in Las Vegas?

There are a lot of hobby shops in Vegas that deal in casino chips. Do a local business search on Yahoo and I’m sure a bunch will pop up.
For some reason, chip collecting has boomed recently. I just started 1 month ago. Before you start buying too many chips be sure to get a price guide so you don’t overpay. I’ve bought a few off Ebay that weren’t worth close to what I paid.

Q&A: Low stakes poker tournaments and games in Vegas.?
Question by sctrojnvirus: Low stakes poker tournaments and games in Vegas.?
My brother, my best friend and I will be going to Las Vegas in mid-august for a week. We are decent, pretty experienced, low-stakes poker players. Does anybody know of some good tournaments with buy-ins $ 65 and under with limited-to-no rebuys or add-ons? We want tournaments were skill actually prevails, not where the blinds go up every 5 minutes and you start with small stacks. Also, any recommended low-stakes games with less-than-average rake?
Basically any information about good poker for low-stakes players in Las Vegas would be much appreciated.

I think at that stake level you should try Tresure Island (or TI as they call themselves). They have a great new card room with comfy seats, nice tables, shufflemaster, and plasma TVs. It is not too big and the staff are friendly.
They have a $ 60 tournament six times a day (2am – 7am – 11am – 2pm – 7pm – 10pm) with one $ 5 add on. Exactly the stakes you are looking for.
While you are there, if you don’t like what they offer, pick up a copy of Card Player magazine which they give away free and in the back you will find a list of tournaments.

Poker rooms typically give you $ 1 an hour for playing. Just go online and look for the lowest rate and play poker where you want to play.

I found this for you at one of the las vegas casino sites – this is what they say about their poker at the casino;
Rolling poker tournaments are offered all day, every two hours from 3:30am until 7:30pm. Buy-in for the tournaments ranges from $ 40-70 and includes $ 2,000 in tournament chips.

First, check out cardplayer magazine for listed tournaments and buyins (it’s in the back section).
Personally, I really liked playing in the Plant Hollywood 7pm tournament which the buy in was $ 50 w/ $ 10 add-on, so $ 60 in total. This is a Re-Buy tournament but I just made sure I wasn’t out before the first break. Really great room and was very comfortable.
I also played at Paris and that was $ 65 buyin. I really didn’t like the room which really wasn’t a room. It was small and very cramped.
There are a few more tournaments at Luxor and Ceasers that are under your limit.
Card player magazine is free in every cardroom so that would be the first thing you should pick up.
Have a great time!!!
