I do not believe playing in a freeroll tournament is bad for your game as you’re still getting a learning experience in, even if you’re not risking any money in the process.

The only downside I can see is that you may play a bit more recklessly as you’re not out any money if you lose.

Some friends and I want to have a private poker tournament for our Facebook friends. I wanted to do it on Pokerstars but they say I have to have 2,000 VIP points (I only have 1,672). Does anyone know if there’s another site where I can do this. Thanks!

Can I legally run a poker tournament in New York City where there are entrance fees but players do not actually win money? The entrance fee would be used for the sponsoring organization’s benefit and not for charity. If you happen to know the applicable laws governing this, that information would be helpful as well.

Do you really think people will pay money to play poker just to make you rich????

I’m assuming there are some sort of prizes given out? Otherwise, you won’t get many customers.

Whether the prize is cash or merchandise, if the sponsoring company makes money on the deal, it will be viewed as running a casino without a license. Definitely illegal, no matter where you live.

Okay, so I am 18 and I am trying to find out if there are any tournaments i can enter with my age.

I know you cannot enter into any WSOP tourneys but I’m not sure about others.

Depending on where you live, I know there are Indian Reservation Casino’s that do not serve alcohol that are 18 years or older to Gamble in the USA. Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY (upstate) offers different tournaments and is only 18 to get into. Also there are casinos in Canada that have tournaments and the gambling age is 18. Hope this helps.
