Question by famousblue11: On televised poker tournaments–Why is there 4 or 5 times more tournament money than the grand prize?
Often for a One Million Dollar Tournament there are in excess of $ 5,000,000 tournament chips in play at the final table. How does this work–why?

In the tournament, did the winner get 1 mil? If so, the rest went to the people who were 2nd, 3rd and so on. The losers always get a little something too.

No. Moreover, many of the online poker rooms, because they require you to download software to participate, are installing spyware on your PC, making you subject to potential identity theft. The only way to win is not to play.

If you are bailing on poker because of one bad hand, then you probably shouldn’t be playing in the first place. Go read a book about pots odds and the amount of bankroll you need to have to play at given stakes.

I was wondering if there are any reputable Poker sites which do not have the casino element. I enjoy playing Poker but find myself always wasting my winnings on their slot games when play is slow. If there are no sites without the casino element, are there any sites where you can exclude yourself from playing the casino without excluding yourself from the poker?

Neither Full Tilt nor PokerStars have casino games. Many of the other US-friendly sites do have casino games, but I don’t know about the others that don’t accept US players.

I like playing the slots, too, for a break, when I’m on one of the sites with casinos — but only for play money. I don’t need to use real money to know I’m unlikely to get ahead that way. The reason I play poker is that it does have the skill element. Slots don’t.

My husband does bodog.com and he always makes deposits of $ 20, but I’m not really sure about the inital deposit. Also, I believe online poker rooms have been banned so you have to go through a lot of work in order to play. They don’t advertise that you can play for money but they use a different company as a front in order to get your money…it’s complicated so you would be better off going to a real casino. Online poker is too easy to just blow all your money too!

If you are in the US, not only do they not take American Express, but they don’t take Visa or Mastercard either

Question by Here Today: Is there an online poker room with a good bonus system so I don’t have to play millions of hands to get the ..
It seems like every site (except Party Poker which is no good in the US anymore) makes you play an unreasonable number of hands before you get your bonus. Or they make you play to the flop which just promotes sloppy play… Are there any sites with good initial bonuses that don’t require either of these things?
After looking at that site (ultimate bet), it looks to me like you have to play many more than 6500 raked hands to get your bonus which isn’t even given out in dollars… it’s bonus dollars which I have to bet to convert into cash!

Have you tryed ultimatebet.com ? I like the site. Lots of freerolls for REAL , and yes they have a point system for “time played” but not hands played… As long as your at the table (playing or not) your getting time and points
