in las vegas casinos there’s a host who seats you at an open table. when you need to leave you usually notify the dealer if you will be returning. or you can just gather your chips after a hand and leave.

Q&A: Proper etiquette on the poker table (cash)?
Question by cuggles_intl: Proper etiquette on the poker table (cash)?
Hi
Planning to go to a poker room at weekend where my partner is playing in a poker tournament (pub national finals!).
Question I have:
I have played lots of poker online (cash and tournaments) but when I play cash online if I’m planning to leave the game I’ll click sit out next blind but wanted to know if it would be acceptable/would I be accepted back to the table later on if I decided to do similar (e.g announce under the gun (just before I’m due to post blind) that I’m leaving).
I mainly ask as partner is in a tourney that’s due to start at midday and I’m booked into a tourney in the same club starting at 7.30pm …. 7½jrs is a lot time to kill and I might play cash till my tourney starts but not sure seeing as I’ve not played cash live!
Honestly people if you’re not going to offer any real advice please don’t bother … spoof websites (no.1) and claiming that poker is gambling (no.2 (try reading something on the game before speculating your inherited opinions!))
sigh!!!!!!!!

You’ll be fine, you can leave whenever you want and no one will mind. The only time someone might care is if you recently won a lot of chips. But you’re not a regular plus you’ll have a legit excuse, your tournament will be starting. I don’t see people get mad unless the same person tries to sit at the table half an hour later with less chips. If it’s that short a time you have to buy in for what you had before. If it’s a few hours then you’re in the clear, but out of courtesy you can buy in for the max allowed (if it’s the same people sitting), that way no one will get the wrong idea that you won a pot and wanted to immediately bank their chips.
The only important poker etiquette is this:
- Never slowroll
- Resist talking about the current hand when you have more than one opponent (or aren’t in the hand at all).
- Don’t be distracted/asleep too often when it’s your turn to act.
- Don’t call the clock on someone too soon if it’s a fairly big decision.
- If it comes to a showdown and your opponent mucks, don’t ask what he had or for the dealer to turn his cards over.
- If you win a hand and show the person next to you your cards, you gotta show everyone.
(Mostly common sense / golden rule stuff.)

What is the second slot in a casino poker table for?

Question by B.A.Y.: What is the second slot in a casino poker table for?
I played my first casino poker game today, and in addition to the rake box, I noticed another slot in the table to the left of the dealer. Ever hand, she would deposit a chip in this slot. This was not the rake, and I never noticed whether the chip came from the pot or her till. Is this a way to count how many hands have been played at a table, and is this money comming from the pot, or just the dealer’s till?
It’s not the tip box either. I just thought of something. The casino has a bad beat jackpot. I bet it’s for that.

Answer by zman492
I think what you are describing is a tip box. The dealer is likely to collect tips in a specific place until the total is at least $ 5. The dealer will then color up $ 5 in tips and deposit a $ 5 chip in the tip box.

Will a vegas casino provide a dealer for a 1 table poker tournament?
Question by Charles C: Will a vegas casino provide a dealer for a 1 table poker tournament?
I’m going to be in Vegas with some friends, maybe 5-8 people. Will a casino provide a dealer if we want to play a small hold ‘em tournament? What about a cash game? Main point is we don’t want random players in the mix.

Yes most places should rent you a table, equipment and a dealer for an hourly rate.

has television ruined final table blind/ante structures of poker tournaments?

Question by sabes99: has television ruined final table blind/ante structures of poker tournaments?
now that poker is a mainstay on tv, the shows(starting with the wpt and now the wsop has joined in) have begun to have some say in how the event is structured…the results are huge blinds and total lotteries at the ends of tournaments, which are good for the general viewer who enjoys an all-in fest for millions of dollars because of the excitement, but not for anyone who knows poker…so do you share my opinion that tv people have destroyed the integrity of major final tables, and what is the best way to ensure that tv shows display more “real” poker, without costing the networks money by losing viewers?
good point about the horse tournament switching at the end, but that final table was by far the best NLH final table structure i have seen in a long time, so it wasn’t that bad

I’d say it’s mixed.
I was listening to a radio talk show the other day about a new poker book coming out and they asked how the new rules changed it. The poker player/author said that one of the things changed, aside from bigger winnings, is that in the old days the people who made it to the final table split the winnings. Now they play for who’s 1st and on down the line and get paid accordingly. He said that’s changed the dynamics alot because it used to be that players would shoot to get up early and then hold their stacks for only the strongest hands because surviving ment an even split, where now if they don’t play hard all the way they end up losing/winning far less.

No, you can’t get up and come back without losing hands. They’re not gonna wait for you, if that’s what you mean.
But you can quit at any time.

Leaving the table @ a casino poker game?
Question by Craig M: Leaving the table @ a casino poker game?
Is there any kind of etiquette for leaving the table for a restroom break, make a phone call, etc. Should you bring your chips with you when you leave and are planning on coming back?
Best answer:
Answer by rick994
If you are planning on comming back leave your chips at your spot. Ask the dealer to put down a marker resembling that the spot is being held and politely excuse yourself as you would if you were getting up from a dinner with friends. When you come back wait until the next hand before joining back in.
