Q&A: Hand not paid as it should have been on a major online poker site. What to do?

Question by born2survive: Hand not paid as it should have been on a major online poker site. What to do?
Was playing in a tournament at one of the biggest online poker sites and didn’t get paid as I should have done. I won the hand yet the pot was split. I was playing real money. The tounament was a 20 seater and cost $ 9 to enter. Anyone else had this happen to them or an idea of what I should expect back from the poker site in compensation?
Please note this has been checked by numerous people and the mistake is 100%. I had to replay the hand 3 times myself and show it to 2 other poker players to believe it myself. It is presently being investigated by the poker site. Just not sure what to expect from them?
The flop was AD, 9D, 4C, 4S, 9S. I had A5 he had A2. As you can see no flush or straight draw was out. We both had two pairs Aces and 9′s but the highest kicker (5th card) was my 5.

I suspect that you misunderstood the hand.

Even the smallest and most basic poker sites are capable of figuring out which hand wins. There is no advantage to the site in ripping someone off with a split pot in a tournament that cost $ 9 to enter.

Most of the decent poker sites like Poker Stars and Full Tilt, have dealt over a billion hands. It just isn’t conceivable at this point that the computer cannot figure out the winner in a pot.

My guess is that you misunderstand kicker rules.

UPDATE:

Based on the hand you explained you would be correct, the five would play. If you have the exact hand data, email it to support@whateverpokersite.com and see what they say.

Honestly if you are correct in what the cards were, I cannot imagine a major site like Full Tilt or Poker Stars making that kind of mistake. So I suggest if you are 100% sure that the mistake happened, you pick a better site to play on.

What are the basic $1/2 no limit poker rules I should know at the casino?

Question by Dr.Dro: What are the basic /2 no limit poker rules I should know at the casino?
Hi i’m a rookie, just turned 18 and wish to play with the big dogs in the casino . I know how to play but can you please explain what happens when I buy into a table ($ 40 minimum) do they give me chips and I sit down? Also do I small blind if I have the white dealer button or the person left of me?? Thank you!!!!

Best answer:

Answer by pdq
Different casinos have different rules for buying into a table, but most allow you to just buy in for the $ 40 after you sit down at the table. If they tell you to go to the cashier’s cage to get chips, then just go ahead and do that.

The person with the white dealer button is the dealer. (They don’t actually physically deal the cards! That’s just their position.) The person to the left of the dealer button is the small blind and puts up $ 1 to start the hand. The person to the left of the small blind is the big blind and puts up $ 2 to start the hand. The person to the left of the big blind will be the first person that will act in the hand. (In other words, call, raise, or fold.)

Just pay close attention to what’s going on. It’s not too hard to figure out if you pay close attention for a few hands. If you have to wait for a seat to become available, spend that time watching one of the $ 1/$ 2 games. You’ll get a good sense of what’s going on.

One more piece of advice: Forget anything you’ve seen in the movies regarding poker games. You can sit down and play just ONE hand if you want to, then get up and leave right away after winning your first hand. Just remember that is always YOUR money that you’ve got sitting in front of you, and these people are NOT your friends. You will almost certainly be handing these people your money if this is your first time. If you manage to get lucky and get up to $ 100, stand up, cash in your chips, take a walk for a while, then come back and re-buy for $ 40.

Have fun! Maybe you’ll get lucky!

Which poker book should I buy?

Question by me: Which poker book should I buy?
I want to play No limit texas hold em, online tournament poker or cash. First I can’t decide which one to do, and second I don’t know which book to buy because theres about 50,000. I play poker alot so im not a rookie, I just want to learn how to play better because those people online are really good!

Best answer:

Answer by John F
Most of the more popular poker books should be available in the library. You can take a few out for a couple of weeks and see which one you like best.

It really is difficult to decide. Everybody who ever won a poker tournament has a book out, and each writer has a different way to describe things.

You have to decide which makes the most sense to you.

For online poker, what percentage of my bankroll should I play with for tournaments?

Question by Todd M: For online poker, what percentage of my bankroll should I play with for tournaments?

Answer by Bluemyboy
Playing Poker Online. Is it Worth Your Time?

You’ve read some books, subscribed to a couple of online E-zines, participated in forum discussions, even joined a few sites and played in the freeroll tournaments. You’ve studied the game, you’ve practiced your moves, and you’re ready to hit the big time. The Real Money Games. But, are you really?

Once you make the decision to take the plunge and start playing for actual money you need to decide if it’s worth it.

This isn’t as flippant a question as it may at first seem. You need to take an honest look at your bankroll and your poker skills. Both are likely to be rather low if you’re just starting out.

So, the first question to ask is, “Can I afford to play at these stakes?” If the cost to buy into a tournament is more than 15% of your bankroll, it’s easy. NO. If the cost for a seat in a ring game is more than 20% of your bankroll (cash games usually require min 100 BB’s), NO. Money management is crucial to both online and live play. I know of no faster way to go broke than to over-play your bankroll.

What differences should a online poker player know about when they go play their first live poker tournament?

online poker tournaments

Question by bigwheels1031: What differences should a online poker player know about when they go play their first live poker tournament?
I am playing my first live tournament today! It isn’t actually for any money just for fun but I still want to learn from it. Does the whole sunglasses and hat deal actually work well at hiding your tells or not?

Best answer:

Answer by Lone Wolf
Live is different than online. The betting will be both more subdued (in general) and explosive.
Yes, sunglasses, etc. can help. Other props can too – a drink, etc. Be careful of nervous/subconscious habits giving you away.
The main thing is your attitude – all tells come from that. Tells are usually more subtle than blatant. More of a feeling than a literal sign. The most successful players do not play a bad hand with a losing attitude, or a winning hand with a winning attitude (except to throw in a red herring – successful playing requires that you be “found out” every now and then – whether bluffing or not). The real trick is to normally play a bluff slightly towards the winning attitude side – a false tell cannot be too obvious – not show as implied but rather left to be inferred by the bluffed. The same holds true for a winning hand – to get the maximum money out of a winning hand the opponents must not be informed but let them discover your slightly weak tell. No discernible change in attitude when playing one or the other is the holy grail of live poker playing.
The majority of hands will be won by luck of the draw and skill in odds/betting amounts.
The rest is figuring out what the other players are up to. Trust your instincts – watch everything every player does, in every situation, to fine tune them.
