Q&A: How to play private poker tournament on the internet?

Question by Miekkuli: How to play private poker tournament on the internet?
We have a group of people that want to play PRIVATE poker tournament (no-limit texas hold-em) on the internet without money involved. We have prices and other stuff but that would go from hand to hand because we all know each other.

Is there FREE program (or a poker site) that can do the tournament without money involved. If poker site, then it has to be possible to register without having a credit card.

Private poker tournaments?

Question by Ron Pottle: Private poker tournaments?
Does anyone know of a poker site that will allow me to create texas holdem private tournaments without a deposit?
Party poker states that you must be an affiliate that can get at least 200 hundred people to join. Thats BS. I just want to go to a site and create a tournament for me and my friends. We don’t mind paying for the convenience. We just don’t want to make a deposit because we cam handle our own finacial dispersments in our own way.
Ladbrokes looked promissing, however, their system will not allow members from the United States to register a guest account.

I want to host my own private online poker tournament, on my own server. Is software available for this?

online poker tournaments

Question by Mark B: I want to host my own private online poker tournament, on my own server. Is software available for this?
I want to host a private, for fun, invitation only online poker tournament for my friends (2-12 people). I’m looking for a web site or software program that would facilitate this, preferably software so that people would not be required to register at a site. I will announce the time, participants will log on from their home and play
in the game. I imagine this is possible, but haven’t figured out how to do it yet. Any ideas?

Best case scenario: I would download a server client, and then give my IP address to friends. I wait for them to connect and join, then I start the tournament.

PokerRoom.com allows you to set up play money, private tables. If you’re from the US, you can’t deposit with real money but you can use the play money tables all day long. This is probably the simplest solution.

Q&A: Home and private poker vs online poker and casino poker?

Question by Jack P: Home and private poker vs online poker and casino poker?
Every medium sized city includes hundreds of weekly poker games going on inside it. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights countless husbands make poker widows of their wives and gather somewhere to play for several hours. There’s no background noise of slot machines, no rake, no self-proclamations about anyone being a poker professional, and no fanfare.

But there is frequently plenty of money on the table. And every player can see the same cards the same shuffle the faces and the hand and eye movements of all the other players.

The question nagging me is why the people who play online and see themselves as poker experts and profess their professionalism as gamblers here are doing it online, where it’s about memorizing or owning statistical software instead of out there where the rubber meets the road?

What brings a person to put money on an imaginary table online and trust an environment he/she would repudiate and laugh off at the hint or suggestion if the same environment was offered at a brick and mortar casino?
Maquis: Thanks for the insightful answer involving your own circumstances and why. My question was actually intended for a slightly different type of answerer: The cadre of shout-it-from-the-rooftops ‘professionals’ here.

And the intended emphasis was home-private games versus casino and online games. I probably was to vague in my wording.

Gracias,

I see 3 main factors involved.

1. Availability. I don’t live near any real casinos, but my computer is always within reach and there’s always a game starting 24/7.

2. Ease of use. I’ve never been to a casino and wouldn’t know what to do. What etiquette rules apply? How much to tip? I don’t want to go to a casino and look like a dweeb walking in the door with no clue what I’m doing. Online, I can learn at my pace and watch others playing for a bit before jumping into the game. I doubt Caesar’s Palace will let me stand over a poker table and watch the players.

3. Stakes. Most casinos have a $ 5 minimum bet for Blackjack and I don’t even know what is typical for poker tables, but I bet it ain’t 1/2 cent blinds. I’m not a hard core gambler and I don’t spend hundreds of dollars gambling each month. Heck, I’ve been milking the same $ 25 for years now on pokerstars. I play the occasionally micro-stakes tourney and just enjoy the games.

Perhaps casinos have more to offer the hard core gamblers. The shows in Las Vegas can certainly be entertaining, but it isn’t for me. I’m sure there are a lot of other casual gamblers as well that like a little action but don’t have a casino nearby and don’t want to use their vacation time to find one.

You can host your own private online poker tournament at most decent online poker rooms. You can find a couple here – http://www.casino-black-jack.org/poker-rooms.htm – all those listed on the page will do the job for you.
