Question by Robert L: Do you think the IRS can find out if i win lots of money from an online poker site such as full tilt poker?
I”m looking at tournaments from full tilt poker and first place prize is a little over $ 137,000. Should you file it? How much will they take? How can they find out if you win prizes that big?

With the pending ruling for legalization of online poker (wether its tomm or 5 years) what effect will it have will the big boys FTP, PS just continue to dominate even more or will sites like WSOP swoop in and real money games and take over. It’s tough to say. This is a very open ended question subject to opinion and conjecture.

Harrah’s (the owners of the WSOP franchise) has been positioning themselves to become a factor in the online poker space. They hired a former executive from Party Poker to run their online operations. There are rumors about Zynga becoming a huge presence as well. Party Poker paid 9 figure fines to wipe their hands clean of their wrongdoings in the past presumably to lead the way for their comeback in the US market. FTP and Stars have been very active in the Poker Player Alliance (theppa.org) and helped markup the bill that overturns the UIGEA and will hopefully legalize (and regulate and provide tax revenue from) online gambling.

Predictions? There will be another poker boom, followed by a consolidation just like there was in 2003-2006. I think FTP, Stars, Party and Zynga will continue be the big players (although Zynga may have a very rough transition in becoming a real money site). I don’t know much about Harrah’s goals, but I think they will need to buy an existing poker network to be a player.

Technially it is illegal to gamble online for money in the U.S., just so you know.

But hundreds of thousands of people do it everyday.

ok to answer your question, yes you play for real money. And no it is not “if you are lucky”, poker is a game of skill. It is part luck, but more skill.

The amount of how much you want to play for ranges from pennies, to hundreds of thousands of dollars. They have all ranges of games. Make a deposit of what ever you want and play at a low level and have fun. Start with maybe $ 50-100.

The two biggest sites are Fulltilt poker and Pokerstars. Google the names and they come right up.

No. Moreover, many of the online poker rooms, because they require you to download software to participate, are installing spyware on your PC, making you subject to potential identity theft. The only way to win is not to play.

ok its like asking me is drinking Scott’s and water like drinking water ,,,anz is yes since with zynga they give you free chops every time you log on so you cant really lose anything while in money site you can lose really money if you play for really money but free games are the same bet all and you get more free chips

the new way around the law is to use phone cards. Just call the poker site’s hotline and they will happily walk you through the process so they can get you playing and paying rakes and tourney fees asap.

Since some online poker sites were shut down earlier this year, I haven’t played online poker in quite a while. I used to play on pokerstars but as far as I know they are still down and I can’t play there for money anymore. Are there still legit online poker sites out there that will allow me to play for money? I do not like Ultimate Bet! Any other site is fine though

I’m thinking that the best way would be to sit at multiple ring games and play your hand honestly with minimum bluffing. That’s what I did starting out playing poker and did alright with it. I’ve been trying to employ some more advanced deception techniques lately, and while the do work occasionally, i’m still not making as much as i did playing honest hands. What would you recommend as the safest and easiest way to play profitably?

at the lowest limits playing abc poker is definitely the way to go…bluffing is good as long as you have narrowed down which players would be willing to fold and if the situation allows for it…

pay very close to your image…do you believe that your opponent believes that you could bluff that spot…

Use epassporte. Its a pain the buttocks, but there are really no new viable options for fulltilt. I’ve never used “cash transfer”, but the minimum deposit for them is $ 250! Too rich for my blizood.
