Online poker plays alot faster. The shuffle is instantaneous. The players have the ability to act in advance and not change the other players actions. The money does not seem like money because you can not spend it on groceries or such.
There is a social aspect to playing live. You can see the player face to face when they are bluffing.

Live poker tournament, is it much different from online poker?
Question by TheG: Live poker tournament, is it much different from online poker?
Hi all,
I’m going to a poker tournament at a casino tonight, and will be playing in my first live tournament, I regularly play online but never at casinos. Will it be a lot different? What will I have to look out for? And I suppose the most important thing is…..will I have to wear any sunglasses!?!?! lol.
One last thing, I don’t really gamble much, so what casino game can I play that will give me best odds of winning some sort of profit?
Cheers

Live poker is massively different to on-line play. Not least is the fact that you have to take account of tells and giveaways much more. If you sweat a bit every time you push all in, it makes no difference in an on-line game. At a live table, it’s a mortal weakness. Another factor is the table talk – it’s very easy to be an internet tough guy, but handling smack talk at a live table is a real test of character, and there are thousands of players out there who make it their business to get under your skin and get you on tilt.
You’ve got to consider table etiquette (such as avoiding string bets, whether straddles are permitted etc), and you can’t sit around and play in your underwear (unless you’re an extremely high roller), and you’ll probably find live poker far less relaxing than on-line games, but a lot more challenging and exciting.
As for wearing sunglasses, I personally have always regarded them as a ridiculous affectation, the vast majority of tells aren’t in the eyes anyway, reading a player is about considering their whole body language, not just staring into their eyes and guessing.

Can I go to Canada to cash a check from online poker if I live in Washington State?
Question by dj k: Can I go to Canada to cash a check from online poker if I live in Washington State?
Hypothetically, can I go to Canada if I wish to withdraw money from an online poker account, and not be penalized if I live in the state of Washington?

Yes, that is correct.
I won a tournament on PokerStars and I cashed out a check for $ 350.
The check was from Wells Fargo Bank I believe, I just went to Wal Mart and cashed it.
Easy as pie.
Wish it were easy as pie to win another tournament…

online I think the biggest every buy in was the FTP online Omaha hi( possibly h/l, not sure) championships, 25k buy in, 50 something players I believe, the 2nd placer was Patrik Antonius, I think the most people is around 10k on FTP, possibly more on PokerStars, they have very large tournaments at time, largest prize pool on FTP this year was about 2.5 million I’m pretty sure, that was won by amak316, the most live entrants in a tournament is usually the WSOP I’m guessing, 10k buy in, best players in the world, great tournament

IN live poker casino texas hold em NL the casino makes what percentage of rakeback per hand?

Question by myersjonathon: IN live poker casino texas hold em NL the casino makes what percentage of rakeback per hand?
Best answer:
Answer by LegFuJohnson
Varies.
Most that I’ve seen take $ 1 when the pot gets to be $ 10, then $ 2 when the pot gets to be $ 20…
But up to a limit of $ 4 per hand. I’m sure some are more, some are less. Some just take money based on how long you sit, and not rake the pots.

Question by hotsauceg: Qualifying for live poker tournaments online? Fulltiltpoker.com Questions?
How do ppl qualify for live poker tournaments online? Isn’t online poker for real money now illegal in the states? Can it be done by playing for fake chips? I signed up for fulltiltpoker.com and they have things like freerolls and FTP and satellite tokens. What is that!? Can someone explain this to me! Thx!

Answer by pokercoach
NO online poker is not “illegal”, and yes you can win seat on several poker site to play live, You use what it’s call a satellite, basically if you can’t afford a 00 buy-in tournament you still have chance to play by winning a seat, you play a satellite for maybe , , 0 and for example the last 5 players won they’re seat. And you can do it by freerolls too(it’s crazy, but possible) and FTP are points that you win when you’re playing cash game , so you collect those points and can use it to enter a tournament.
Hope it’s helpfull, it you need any other poker answers, you can contact me on my site.
Take care

Never actually been to a casino or played poker in a casino but my local casino has a age of 18 to play and im going for my 18th birthday. how much should i bring to play and how does it work getting the chips?

Answer by sayit.again
Alright, I’m not a gambler :-p But, I’ve been to the casino a few times when I was 21.
I don’t know what the bets are (maybe and above), but regarding the chips: You sit at the table, put your money on the table. During the next round, the dealer will take your money and give you your money’s worth of chips, and you begin to play.
