PokerStars is the biggest online poker room and is considered the best by most people. Read more on PokerStsrs here: http://www.areyouapokerfish.com/pokerrooms.html
As for legality all I know is thousands of Americans play on PokerStars everyday and nobody has ever been prosecuted for playing online poker. The U.S. gov’t passed laws against the banks / credit card companies forbidding them to allow the transfer of funds to gambling sites but that’s about it.

With (afaik) the sole exception of Washington state, online poker is completely legal in the US. Even as far as Washington is concerned, they never explained how they intend to enforce their ridiculous law. The only Federal law affecting online poker was the one a few years back that banned electronic funds transfer between gambling sites and US banks…that was designed to combat money laundering, not gambling.

Online Poker is legal and regulated in many countries around the world such as the United Kingdom. But not all countries have embraced the online gambling industry and the legality of online poker is a complicated subject matter. Gambling in any way, shape or form is illegal in many countries around the world. Many countries allow state run gambling operations but impose bans in online gambling. Other countries have laws that are unclear usually because these laws were implemented before the advent of the Internet. Q&A: Are poker tournaments legal in California?
Question by Spencer S: Are poker tournaments legal in California?
A bunch of my friends and I were thinking of hosting a poker tournament with a PS3 for the winner. We were going to charge a buy in and give away a % of the winnings to the winner and top players. Is this legal or not (for California)?
Originally I was thinking it was because people enter other tournaments, like sports or video games, where there is an entrance fee, and the winner takes a % of the pot. This would be no different, but poker is a gambling game.
Anyways, I don’t want to do anything illegal so hopefully someone knows the answer. I was planning on opening it up to the public because most of my friends don’t play poker as far as I know.

Is it or is it not legal for US citizens to play poker online for money?

Question by chzbrgr: Is it or is it not legal for US citizens to play poker online for money?
I’ve seen sites like PokerStars and FullTilt that offer for-money games open to US players, but I’ve also heard repeatedly that online poker is illegal here. These sites are big operations, not exactly running under the table, so how does that work?

I am considering using my poker skills to make some extra money gambling online, but do not want to violate any laws. I am new to the state of Florida, so I am unsure of the state laws that pertain to online gambling for real money. Could someone please give me the scoop? Layman’s terms please. I do not not need replicated statutes that make it hard to understand. Thanks.
