Question by ljnunemaker: Whats the proper procedure for getting into a poker game at a casino?
How do you get chips? Who do you talk to to get on a list? If you lose all your chips do you have to give up your seat to get more or can you buy more on the spot? Whats proper tipping ettiquite (who all to tip and how much?) Thanks in advance

It would depend on the casino, but most casinos have a signup desk. Get a casino comp card so they can keep track of your play as well. You should usually buy your chips at the cashier, but can buy them at the table. If you lose all your chips you can rebuy more at the table. If you have to get up to get more money or go to an ATM, ask them to hold your seat and they will. If you have to go to the bathroom and you have chips, leave them on the table and go .. you cannot remove any chips from the table unless you want to give up your seat.
Most people tip the deal $ 1 on pots of at least 10 dollars, and sometimes 2 or 3 dollars on extremely big pots. Most people do not tip the dealer for hands they lose. Most people tip the waitress 1 dollar for each drink she brings you.

You can get a cheap one at any place that sells board and card games, like Walmart or Target. If you want a high class casino style one, that’s the type of thing that’s going to be both expensive, and that you’d have to special order.

a lot of the restricted ones are for people from a certain country. this has to be in your address and personal info. also, there are some freerolls that are meant just for members of a certain website. for example railbirds freerolls are for people who are members of railbirds.com and have recieved a password via the site.

Are you talking about in-person play or online? If online, the site wll have a tournament schedule posted and you simply apply for a seat. One of the bigger and better poker sties is PokerStars. Their rules are as follows:

All tournaments will begin promptly at the scheduled time stated in the Tournament Lobby.

Seats are assigned at random. Seat changes are not permitted.

The button will be positioned at Seat 1 to start play.
The tournament ends when one player accumulates all the chips in play. If the tournament is a satellite event, the tournament will end when all players have qualified for the target event (ie, if the tournament awards 5 seats, the tournament will end when there are 5 players left).

If two or more players are eliminated on the same hand, the player with more chips at the beginning of the hand is placed higher. If players started the hands with an identical amount of chips, both players tie for that rank, and any prizes due to those players will be equally distributed between them.

During hand-for-hand play (as described in rule #20 below), two players eliminated during a single “synchronized” hand are treated as having been eliminated on the same hand, even if they are at different tables.

PokerStars uses a “forward moving button” rule in its tournaments. According to this rule, no player ever receives the button twice in a row; at the completion of every hand, the button is moved clockwise to the small blind. The implication of this rule is that when players are eliminated, there may be players who get a reprieve from one or both blinds.

The forward moving button is common practice in online poker due to the technicalities involved in adjusting the blinds after players are eliminated. Since these are basically random occurrences, no player will receive any long-term advantage, and the rule is necessarily fair for all players.

When two players remain, the button will post the small blind, and act first on the opening round.

I live in Hawthorne, Nevada. The local casino here is called the El Capitan. They have blackjack tables but no poker so the locals have to travel to Reno to play. How would I talk them into opening a poker room in the casino or in the bar they own across the street? I don’t know much about casino protocol.

well, i dont know about fast, but on pokerstars.com, they are doing a buttload of freeroll tournaments. They are having one evreryhour. If you place in the top 50, then you get to registerinto a free sattelite. And a top 3 finish gets you like 1000 bucks, and a 10, 000 vegas trip with lodging and tourny seat paid for. If you are really confident in your pokerskills, just play som really ig money games online. Thats risky though. Hope this helps, and hopefully your prolem gets resolved.
