Question by Peter: i play party poker play money tournaments and want to play in cash games, but is party poker the best site?
Party Poker seems to have alot of american players and alot of american freeroles, but is there any better sites?

Best site for americans are pokerstars and fulltilt poker. I prefer fulltilt cause I stick to it from years. And it has a very nice bonus of 600$ .

if you want to perhaps turn 100 to 1000 through solid TAG poker, which is the best route to build your BR. do most online pros just play cash games? can playing sngs do it to? i’m thinking MTTs would need a higher BR….

I wouldn’t really consider MTT’s. Even great players will have ridiculously long dry streaks in large tournaments, so if you’re looking for a relatively steady income, it’s not a great place to start.

Between ring games and SNGs, it’s really up to the player. Different players have different strengths, and some suit one format over the other. A typical professional gambler will steer towards ring games, but there are certainly plenty of people making decent money at nothing but SNGs.

FYI, I started with basically nothing at one of the major poker sites (I was on it playing play money games to see if I liked it and they deposited $ 5 into my real money account) and built up a significant bankroll (a LOT more than $ 1,000) playing almost exclusively 18 player SNGs. This was mainly because $ 5 is not enough to even sit at a $ .01/.02 ring game, but it’s 4 buy-ins at $ 1 SNGs, and once I got going I just stuck with what worked.

I’m just wondering what anefficient bankroll management system is for online poker cash games..
-I multi-table between 8-12 tables for cash games short-handed (6max) tables with the max buy-in. I read and heard that you should keep at least 3x the max-buy in for each table (so for one table of like $ 3/6nl, you should have $ 1,800 just for that one table, 2 tables of $ 3/6 $ 5,400etc)..BUT, you shouldnt buy-in to a cash game with more than 5% of your total bankroll….So, with this being said, should you have a total bankroll of $ 14,400 to play like 8 tables of $ 3/6NL at 6max tables with each table having the max buy-in of $ 600?? <>
Should you have a total bankroll of like $ 288, 000 for a total of 8 tables playing $ 3/6NL 6max tables with each table with the $ 600 max buy-in and at least 3 buy-ins ($ 1800) for protection of each table??..because 5% of your total bankroll ($ 288, 000) is $ 14, 400, which is the total money for all 8 tables at play?

Well, I understand what a bankroll means, but by multi-tabling, I don’t want to risk my entire bankroll on the entire tables at play…I would like to have a comfortable amount of money in my balance that isn’t “in play” as a backup..in case if I run bad during a session and lose a few buy-ins on some tables..Also, I would like to not buy-in to a NL cash game with more than 5-10% of my bankroll (so for 3/6 NL 6Max, I would need at least $ 12k for only ONE table), but how would I go about doing this for multi-tabling like 8-12 tables and still keeping within that 5-10% bankroll range rule???

300 times the big blind is common for a limit game so 6 X 300 = $ 1,800 is a good bankroll for a 3 X 6 limit game. Your bankroll is how much total you have to play, not necessary how much you have in front of you when playing. This bankroll is for one game. If you are playing more than one game then multiply your bankroll by the number of games you play. The bankroll should not be used for anything else except playing poker.

If you are playing no-limit poker, your bankroll requirements are three times higher since your variance is much higher.

I started playing poker online in 2008 and won a few bucks. I never transferred the money to my bank account because I want to keep growing my bankroll.

Still, do I have to report my winnings on my tax return?

Every year.

Even though it’s illegal income, the IRS will still want it’s cut.

By the way, in the unlikely event the account has $ 10K or more in it, you must file a TDF 90-22.1 form. Fines are steep on that one.

You’re not going to find a good statistic on that, especially since online poker is gone. If those stats were to exist, they’d be provided by the players. Remember, there is no poker “circuit” that can be followed in any conventional sense and many players play non-tournaments to stay afloat.

Yes, that is correct.

I won a tournament on PokerStars and I cashed out a check for $ 350.

The check was from Wells Fargo Bank I believe, I just went to Wal Mart and cashed it.

Easy as pie.

Wish it were easy as pie to win another tournament…

No.

However, some poker rooms might give you some credit if you play freeroll and fake money games for a while. Pokerstars gave me $ 2 after about a month, and I’ve never deposited anything. In past years, they apparently gave out $ 5.
