Question by cuggles_intl: Proper etiquette on the poker table (cash)?
Hi

Planning to go to a poker room at weekend where my partner is playing in a poker tournament (pub national finals!).

Question I have:

I have played lots of poker online (cash and tournaments) but when I play cash online if I’m planning to leave the game I’ll click sit out next blind but wanted to know if it would be acceptable/would I be accepted back to the table later on if I decided to do similar (e.g announce under the gun (just before I’m due to post blind) that I’m leaving).

I mainly ask as partner is in a tourney that’s due to start at midday and I’m booked into a tourney in the same club starting at 7.30pm …. 7½jrs is a lot time to kill and I might play cash till my tourney starts but not sure seeing as I’ve not played cash live!
Honestly people if you’re not going to offer any real advice please don’t bother … spoof websites (no.1) and claiming that poker is gambling (no.2 (try reading something on the game before speculating your inherited opinions!))

sigh!!!!!!!!

Best answer:

Answer by DivideByZero
You’ll be fine, you can leave whenever you want and no one will mind. The only time someone might care is if you recently won a lot of chips. But you’re not a regular plus you’ll have a legit excuse, your tournament will be starting. I don’t see people get mad unless the same person tries to sit at the table half an hour later with less chips. If it’s that short a time you have to buy in for what you had before. If it’s a few hours then you’re in the clear, but out of courtesy you can buy in for the max allowed (if it’s the same people sitting), that way no one will get the wrong idea that you won a pot and wanted to immediately bank their chips.

The only important poker etiquette is this:
- Never slowroll
- Resist talking about the current hand when you have more than one opponent (or aren’t in the hand at all).
- Don’t be distracted/asleep too often when it’s your turn to act.
- Don’t call the clock on someone too soon if it’s a fairly big decision.
- If it comes to a showdown and your opponent mucks, don’t ask what he had or for the dealer to turn his cards over.
- If you win a hand and show the person next to you your cards, you gotta show everyone.

(Mostly common sense / golden rule stuff.)

Question by Teddy: Nearest place to play poker(tournaments and cash games) in Columbia, SC?
Thats about it. I’m looking for the nearest place to play in tournaments and cash games.

Best answer:

Answer by samantha
The closest thing I know of is the Harrah’s Casino in Cherokee NC, South Carolina currently does not allow any legal poker. There is a bill that has been introduced several times to legalize home games however it has not passed and is on hold for now until the next session in 2010.

Here is a 2009 Tournament Schedule – The closest I see to you is in Tunica Ms, http://poker.bodog.com/poker-news/2009-poker-tournament-schedule-45840.html
