Question by Mike L: best online poker book?
i have recently begun playing online poker and i am doing ok. but was wondering what the best book is for learning more on online poker, especially sit n go tournaments?

I have looked at reviews and forums and have narrowed it down to “Harrington on Hold ‘em” or Phil Gordon’s Little Green book”. Which is best and easiest to read?

Any help would be appreciated

Question by me: Which poker book should I buy?
I want to play No limit texas hold em, online tournament poker or cash. First I can’t decide which one to do, and second I don’t know which book to buy because theres about 50,000. I play poker alot so im not a rookie, I just want to learn how to play better because those people online are really good!

Most of the more popular poker books should be available in the library. You can take a few out for a couple of weeks and see which one you like best.

It really is difficult to decide. Everybody who ever won a poker tournament has a book out, and each writer has a different way to describe things.

You have to decide which makes the most sense to you.

That I know of Pokerstars and Fulltilt, but you have to have points and then buy it on the VIP store.

Don’t buy a book, there’s a wealth of info on the Internet. But you’ll have to be very tenacious and disciplined to not loose that £50 quid to start off with. Your favorite site while your learning should be http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/ The holy grail for any poker player. This will be more useful then any book imo!

If you’re really serious on a book, then you need to first decide what sort of games your going to play? Cash? Tournements? Single Table tournments? (Different books for different games)

Generally research the following.

Bankroll Managament
Table selection.
Poker stats VPIP/PFR/AGG/3bet
Opening ranges
Gap Concept (Not understanding this is far and away the biggest way beginners loose money initially.)

Download the following

Poker Tracker 3 or Hold’em Manager (HEM is better imo)
PokerStove (Free)

Use the following websites, when your not playing poker.
Pokertableratings.com
officialpokerrakings.com
sharkscope.com

Question by THJE: A good hold’em poker strategy book for a relative beginner?
I’m good at maths and it occurred to me now that i have a few months with nothing to do i should use this to try and make money with online poker. I’ve played with my family before, but usually with play money and not to a very high standard. I can work out the probabilities of a hand winning and stuff, but i am aware there’s a lot more to it, including analyzing the way players bet and the psychology of it, so does anyone know of a good book that can help me learn some of that stuff. Specifically, I’d like to learn how to win at low-limit tables (like .50/ or lower), and take the money off the players which i assume are quite bad who play on those tables.

So basically I want a book on limit hold’em poker strategy designed for consistently taking small amounts of money from weak players. Can anyone reccomend anything?

Depends what games you’re playing exactly, but here’s what I’ve heard is good:
Super System 1 & 2 (Doyle Brunson)
David Sklansky’s Theory of Poker and Hold Em Poker (Sklansky is consider THE expert on anything poker, especially in regards to theory)
Internet Texas Hold Em (Matthew Hilger)
The Complete Book of Hold Em Poker (Gary Carson)
Hold Em Excellence: From Beginner to Winner (Lou Krieger)
Winning Low Limit Hold Em (Lee Jones; this one has been recommended to me many times since I also play low limits)

Also, just looking up strategy in general will give you a lot of great tips. There are lots of great articles out there, many by professional players, completely free.
