Soaring Eagle casino in Mt Pleasant…easy to get to, friendly & won’t cost a bundle to stay in the area-even at the casino itself (although the surrounding motels are ’bout half the price) . Prob only ’bout 2 hr drive from Det area. Only casino in Mt Pleasant, but I’ve been to vegas and AC and if you want to play poker mainly in thecard room, its a winner…

My question is, what is the best way to track this for my 2008 tax return? I’m sure ideally I would record every single tournament, but by the end of the year I will have thousands of tournament results, but it seems this is rather tedious for both me and the IRS.

Would it be more effective, or legal for me to simply track the cashout checks? Since I’m working with an out of country company, and the money’s not really “mine” until I have a check in hand I thought this might be ok.

Also, I never make deposits (and actually never have, but that’s another story) if that makes any difference.

Online gambling is an extremely questionable legal area. Regulators, frustrated in their failed attempts to block US access to off shore gaming sites, have turned their energy towards attacking banks and individual gamblers.

This being said, it is critical that you file taxes. You would certainly not have a problem simply recording your withdraw checks that you deposit in your bank against any deposits you make in the online poker site.

The IRS cannot see your account balance on the poker site, and since it is operating offshore and by allowing you to gamble, operating illegally, it is in their best interests to keep your account quiet.

Legally, the money in that account is yours, and you should be counting it as income. However, realistically, the IRS can’t see that money, and by reporting your earning checks as income, you will have yourself covered just fine.

1) From what I’ve read, PokerStars is the best, with Full Tilt coming in second.

2) Is it worth playing online at all, considering the fact that a lot of people play using bots and other programs to give them a stronger advantage?

The biggest concern I have about playing online is whether or not it will help improve my game, considering you obviously can’t see the players faces or study their body language. I’ve been doing very well at poker rooms in Vegas this past year, but I don’t live there and I’m not ready to quit my job and go professional until I at least make it to the final round of a major tournament. But it would be nice to be able to practice with other serious players when not in Vegas.

I’ve been a bit technophobic when it comes to this sort of thing, but if it really does help improve one’s game and strategy at brick-and-mortar tournaments, I suppose it’s worth a shot.

poker stars and fulltilt are the only sites i would deposit my own money to play they are trusted and take more action against cheaters and hackers they also have software to detect cheaters

I also heard that this is not true with all video poker games, so how do I know which ones are the best. This is of course if you are playing sound strategy. Which I am also not sure on what sound strategy esactly is. For example, if my five cards are Ace hearts Ace Diamonds, 3 hearts, 5 hearts, 8 hearts, do I chase the flush and keep the hearts or stick with the pair of aces?

it can be if you find an older machine and know how to play it. my wife used to play video poker exclusively and take home an average of $ 3000 a week playing only $ 60 four days a week.
