Running an online gaming operation as a US Citizen is illegal. Your winnings from gambling maybe subject to taxes depending on the state. I don’t know if California taxes winnings regardless if you got them in Nevada, or offshore.

I’ve heard various sites saying yes and no. If I am of legal age and living in the state of Indiana can I legally play poker online. They have a promotion where they give me $ 50 to start so I have never (and never plan to) make a deposit, but if i made money with that could I just not legally make a withdrawl? Thanks!

Poker stars and ultimate bet are the best, IMO. I like the was Poker star’s interface works, and with UB, the sit n gos are random table draws, which prevents 4 people from signing up for the same table and colluding.

there are millions of people playing online poker. Is there a small percentage that win and a very large percentage that are overall net losers ?

since you are talking about a group of people that all play in the same arena, i would imagine that the number of winning and losing players is almost identical when talking about online poker alone

however, when discussing whether they are winning or losing players overall, including live play as well as online, there is definitely a difference…i would imagine in that situation that there are slightly more losers than winners, because when you play live there is more to the game that people who play online exclusively don’t get to experience and therefore don’t handle as well

There are many poker sites in today and ages. With that being said, there are sites that cater to good players and there are sites that cater to beginner’s. If you are just learning to play and don’t want to lose your money too easily to people that makes a living by playing poker online, then let me suggest a site that have lots of review for beginner’s player. With the pending ruling for legalization of online poker (wether its tomm or 5 years) what effect will it have will the big boys FTP, PS just continue to dominate even more or will sites like WSOP swoop in and real money games and take over. What will happen any predictions??? Any real news from this?

It’s tough to say. This is a very open ended question subject to opinion and conjecture.

Harrah’s (the owners of the WSOP franchise) has been positioning themselves to become a factor in the online poker space. They hired a former executive from Party Poker to run their online operations. There are rumors about Zynga becoming a huge presence as well. Party Poker paid 9 figure fines to wipe their hands clean of their wrongdoings in the past presumably to lead the way for their comeback in the US market. FTP and Stars have been very active in the Poker Player Alliance (theppa.org) and helped markup the bill that overturns the UIGEA and will hopefully legalize (and regulate and provide tax revenue from) online gambling.

Predictions? There will be another poker boom, followed by a consolidation just like there was in 2003-2006. I think FTP, Stars, Party and Zynga will continue be the big players (although Zynga may have a very rough transition in becoming a real money site). I don’t know much about Harrah’s goals, but I think they will need to buy an existing poker network to be a player.
